Toys “R” Us
1957–2018
“The wall of bikes and the aisle of everything.”
Toy Stores

The cavernous temple of toys where the birthday and Christmas lists came true — a wall of bikes, aisle after aisle of action figures and dolls, the locked cases of video games, and Geoffrey the Giraffe on the sign out front. You handed a stock-slip to the register and hoped the box was in the back. Crushing debt from a buyout finished it, and the U.S. stores were liquidated in 2018.
