Alrosa Villa
1974–2021
“The family-run home of Columbus hard rock and metal.”
Music Venues · North Side · 5055 Sinclair Rd.
The name says it all: Al and Rosa Cautela opened the Alrosa in 1974, and it stayed a true family operation for almost fifty years — their son Rick, the self-styled "Rock and Roll Reverend," running the booking, the bar and the radio spots. What made the place matter wasn't the national headliners (though Deftones, Korn and Slipknot all came through) — it was that Rick put Columbus's own bands on that same real stage, with the same pro sound and lights and a mention in the radio ad. For a local band, playing the Alrosa was the first time it felt real: a proper stage, a proper crowd, a shot at an audience. Underage kids got in with a big black X on the hand and caught their first live show. It carries a heavy memory too — the tragedy of December 8, 2004, when former Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three others were killed on its stage. After the founders passed and the pandemic closed the doors, the Alrosa was demolished in 2021.
