The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. Their core line-up comprised Sting, Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland. The Police became globally popular from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. The band emerged in the British punk scene, but soon expanded into other styles such as new wave, reggae rock, and post-punk.
