The file

A furry owl-hamster that spoke Furbish, learned English over time (it didn't, it was on a schedule), and woke up in the middle of the night. The Christmas 1998 shortage was the last great toy riot of the decade.

The NSA story is the best thing that ever happened to it: an intelligence agency banned a toy that couldn't record anything. Furby's been revived twice; the original's dead-eyed blink is the one people remember.
