1977
The year in music, movies, TV, fads & memories
In 1977, “Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)” by Rod Stewart topped the Billboard year-end Hot 100 and Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and Saturday Night Fever by Bee Gees were on every turntable. Star Wars, Close Encounters and Saturday Night Fever were in theaters, and Three's Company, Eight Is Enough and Roots miniseries were on TV.
The headlines: Star Wars premieres. New that year: Apple II released. Fads of the year: Star Wars mania and Disco fever. Gas was 62¢ a gallon, a stamp was 13¢ and a movie ticket ran $2.23. On the shelf: a Ding Dong, an ICEE and a Spirograph, with Hong Kong Phooey on Saturday morning.
