You were a small man with a pump, digging through dirt, and you killed things by inflating them until they burst. It was strange enough to be unforgettable and the music only played when you moved.
Dropping a rock on two monsters at once was the big score, and the vegetable that appeared in the middle of the screen was the bonus every kid went for and died reaching.
