Heavy D was a Jamaican-American rapper, record producer, and actor who made his mark in hip-hop, contemporary R&B, new jack swing, and reggae fusion. Leading the group Heavy D & the Boyz, he collaborated with dancers G-Whiz and "Trouble" T. Roy, alongside DJ and producer Eddie F. Their sound, characterized by catchy hooks and smooth rhythms, became a staple of East Coast hip-hop throughout the 1990s. The group released five albums with production from notable names like Teddy Riley and Marley Marl. In addition to his work with the Boyz, Heavy D also ventured into solo projects and helped launch the careers of artists like Soul for Real and Monifah, leaving an enduring legacy in the music world.
