Iron Butterfly is an American psychedelic rock band from San Diego, active since 1966. They’re best known for the track “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” a sprawling piece that showcases a heavy, hypnotic sound, paving the way for future hard rock and heavy metal. The band's lineup included Doug Ingle, Jack Pinney, Lee Dorman, Ron Bushy, and Erik Brann, all contributing to their distinctive style. Despite their peak in the late 1960s, Iron Butterfly has continued to reform over the years, although they haven’t released new material since 1975. Their music remains a vivid reminder of a time when rock was evolving into something heavier and more electrifying.
