The Story
Slave is a U.S. rhythm and blues band that emerged from Dayton, Ohio, known for its funky grooves and innovative sound. The group was co-founded by trumpeter Steve Washington, an early adopter of the electric trumpet, and trombonist Floyd Miller. Signed to Cotillion Records, Atco Records, and Atlantic Records, they captivated audiences with their energetic tracks, most notably “Slide.” Their music features a blend of tight rhythms, brass-heavy arrangements, and infectious hooks that showcased the dynamic energy of funk in the late '70s and early '80s. Slave's contributions to the genre continue to resonate with fans who appreciate the uniqueness of their style.
