"The Berg" — a basement bar with rock walls, a cement floor, dim light and a sunken stage, where the grit WAS the appeal and cheap beer met live music. Documented on High Street since at least the 1960s, it was one of the definitive South Campus dives. It came down when the South Campus Gateway project cleared the strip around 2004.
