The Story
Quicksand is an American post-hardcore band from New York City, active since 1990 and fronted by Walter Schreifels. Their sound merges the intensity of alternative metal with the complex rhythms of post-hardcore, drawing comparisons to bands like Fugazi and Helmet. After releasing their self-titled EP, they followed up with two major albums: "Slip" and "Manic Compression." Despite extensive touring, the mainstream success their labels anticipated eluded them, contributing to their split in 1995. They briefly reunited in 1999 before going on hiatus, only to return in 2012 for a special performance. With the 2017 release of "Interiors" and the 2021 album "Distant Populations," Quicksand continues to explore their sound and engage with fans, proving they're anything but forgotten.
