The file
Eight inches long, braided, and sold on the promise that it would take a long time to eat. The wrapper had a ruler on it so you could confirm the length. Marathon was the candy bar for kids who valued duration over flavor.
Mars pulled it in 1981, and older Gen X has been describing it to younger Gen X ever since. The Curly Wurly, its British twin, is still made, which is why it shows up in import candy shops next to a photo of the old wrapper.
