The Pit

1992–1996

Sticky floors and a basement full of dancers.

Campus Bars · South Campus · OSU

Opened in 1992 in the underground South Campus room that had just been the alt-dance club Purity, The Pit kept the space grimy and beloved — sticky floors, low ceiling — but true to its name and its Purity roots it leaned hard into the dance floor, the DJs favoring dance, techno, pop and club remixes over straight rock. It closed around 1996, part of the wave of classic spots — Papa Joe's, Mean Mr. Mustard's, the Locker Room — that vanished as the city and university redeveloped the South Campus strip.
